THE CROSS-REALITY ZONE – UNDERSTANDING THROUGH ACTION

The Cross-Reality Zone is the second of the two main pillars constituting the HUMANEUS Center.

2 – THE CROSS-REALITY ZONE is an experimental environment of modular dimensions – offering numerous attractions or experimental frameworks – combined with a production studio to build bridges between the humanities, the world of leisure, the entertainment industry and the most advanced technologies.

The Cross-Reality Zone is the seat of the Center’s experimental frameworks (attractions).

The Cross-Reality Zone is a place of adventure and initiation, it is a route that tests the visitor who traverses it and confronts him.
The Cross-Reality Zone is a vast evolving space spread over several levels of the HUMANEUS Center. It is through the experimental frameworks that the general public experiences and lives the knowledge discovered in the museum space of the LEIBNIZ Institute.

The Cross-Realities Zone is flexible, it can be enlarged at will according to the wishes and expectations of the host country and thus offer an ever-increasing number of experimental settings (attractions).

Example of expansion of the HUMANEUS Center experimentation park, model 30 hectares.

The name: Cross-Reality (XR), refers to a hybrid mix of real and virtual environments that draw on experiences from traditional game and theater, video games, augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR) and artificial intelligence (AI). The Zone allows the development of advanced and evolutionary experiments, taking place in a replicated (mirrored) physical space in the Virtual Cloud.
The XR Zone is a completely rigged and controlled underground venue that can accommodate an unlimited variety of experiences.
This is done with the help of modular physical accessories, digital sensors, life-size sets, 3D projections, lighting, sound effects, mechanical engineering, holographic techniques and with the support of the latest technologies.
Moreover, the flexibility of the Cross-Reality Zone means that it can also offer a very wide range of activities spanning the entertainment and leisure industry or serve as a test laboratory to explore broad application themes, such as: human-machine interaction or empathy in the digital and mass media age.
The implementation and orchestration of XR requires the collective know-how of our creative team (Three Golden Doors) in terms of architecture, concept art related to film and video game production, as well as all the engineering techniques used in scenic shows.

This work is done in close collaboration with host nation’s artists and creators. We work with local schools and universities and with our partners, the leaders of Swiss technology:

Moka Studio and Artanim which implements virtual reality experiments at Dreamscape Immersive and is one of its sponsors: Warner, 21ST Century Fox and Steven Spielberg.

The Cross-Reality Zone is modular, it can be extended at will according to the wishes and expectations of the host country and thus offer an ever-increasing number of experimental frameworks.

Finally, the Cross-Reality Zone is the vast arena for adventure, play and experience of the HUMANEUS Center; everything that is intellectually conceived, thought and developed within the LEIBNIZ Institute is offered to the general public visiting the HUMANEUS Center within the Cross-Reality Zone. This constant interaction between the different elements forming the HUMANEUS Center, in close partnership with the institutions of the host country, creates the virtuous circle which is the basis of the functioning of the Center. This system, associated with the intense use of the experimental frameworks offered by the Cross-Realities Zone, constitutes the mandate of the HUMANEUS Center, which then sees its audience become the actor, the hero of the teaching delivered.

In this presentation, the expansion of the Cross-Reality Zone is part of a rectangular structure. This is only a proposal, it should be understood that the dimensions, shape and distribution of the area and the complex of the HUMANEUS Center as a whole are totally flexible and adaptable according to the needs and demands of the nation that hosts the Center.

THE COMPOSITION OF THE CROSS-REALITY ZONE

Experimental frameworks (attractions)

The experimental frameworks are journeys of adventure, wonder and emotion. The general public discovers a breathtaking odyssey, they penetrates into universes that allow them to experience and integrate physically and intellectually the knowledge delivered by the HUMANEUS Center.
The specificity of these extremely elaborate routes and the active participation of the public has naturally led us to refer to these adventurous paths as experimental frameworks, instead of calling them attractions.

It is the students of the LEKTON School, the researchers of the ATOMOS laboratory and the artists, creators and programmers of the EIDÔLON Studio who are in charge of developing and constantly evolving the various experimental frameworks of the HUMANEUS Center.

The experimental frameworks are specifically designed as spaces where the different forms of digital and analog entertainment presented to the public cohabit, interact and complement each other through exceptional attractions. Here, bodies and objects are located in real time, allowing for fast interactions, collaborative games and group immersions over vast spaces promoting sensations of an intensity and level still unequalled to this day.

Like the entire HUMANEUS Center, the experimental frameworks are mirrored within the digital double of the Center, and they exploit this particularity in order to reinforce the immersive experience of the public.
As a result, the experimental frameworks of the Cross-Reality Zone are designed and connected in such a way as to build audience loyalty through trendy social media, but also by identifying visitors who can thus, once the visit is over, through the network, extend and complete their experience in digital universes corresponding to those physically visited.

Visitors passing through these environments can be connected via the web to one or more invited partners. They can participate live, experience the action as if they were really present or, if they wish, join forces in order to tackle the proposed challenges.

The experimental frameworks also offer virtual tours of inaccessible or ‘lost’ places, reconstructed historical sites (such as Al Zubarah, Pompeii, Angkor Wat, etc.) or places in the making, potentially offering the general public and specialists an infinite and ever-renewed field of discovery and knowledge enhancement.
Finally, 3 experimental frameworks also extend the Museum space of the HUMANEUS Center by way of reference to the three periods of time presented by the museums: past, present and future.

FOREST OF MYTHS

Within the Cross-Reality Zone, there are a number of experimental frameworks gathered in a group defined as the Forest of Myths.

The Forest of Myths offers the general public a journey involving adventures and trials, allowing them to discover the great founding principles of origins and to confront the main mythological archetypes from the cultures that have swarmed across the world since the dawn of humanity.

The Forest of Myths is a mythological path. This itinerary takes visitors into real-life worlds that harness all the capabilities of advanced augmented reality techniques, holography, scenic illusions, mechanical engineering and immersive technologies to immerse them in real-time adventures that also extend into the digital universe. These routes allow the general public to discover the oldest, most extraordinary and greatest of adventures, the Human Adventure!

The reactions of visitors to the various experimental frameworks are constantly studied by the LEIBNIZ Institute. This makes it possible to validate, modify or invalidate the artistic, mechanical, technological and engineering innovations designed and produced by the EIDÔLON Studio for these different environments and tested in real time with the audience visiting the HUMANEUS Center.

The students of the LEKTON School and the researchers of the ATOMOS laboratory also use the experimental frameworks to test their knowledge and improve their teaching. The experimental frameworks most appreciated by the general public can be adapted and offered for use to the international market.

From the HUMANEUS Center as presented in this file, to the possible extension of its Cross-Reality Zone, this project offers the general public, both national and international, an ever-increasing number of experimental frameworks, totally innovative and hitherto unpublished.

TWO EXAMPLES OF EXPERIMENTAL FRAMEWORKS

1- THE LABYRINTH

The Labyrinth forms the entrance to the HUMANEUS Center. Built on a human scale, largely underground, the Labyrinth is a three-level experimental frameworks, exceptional in its scale, unique in the world and totally innovative.
From mechanical engineering to state-of-the-art immersive technologies, this experimental frameworks uses holographic techniques and stage illusion to immerse the general public in a journey filled with tests.
It is a completely rigged route, an adventure itinerary containing hidden galleries, secret passages, walls that appear or disappear, corridors that change shape, doors that close and doors that invite enquiry.

The function of the Labyrinth is to escort the general public towards the knowledge and understanding provided by the HUMANEUS Center. It leads to to the Museum Space and the Cross-Reality Zone.

To carry out its mandate, the Labyrinth challenges and enters into a collaboration with the public traversing and discovering it. It is a multifaceted place in constant flux, offering an extraordinary initiatory journey to visitors who experience it.
The Labyrinth alone sums up the functioning and mission of the HUMANEUS Center’s experimental frameworks: to make the public realise that they can – through their analysis and reasoning – apprehend the environment in which they are immersed, in order to be able to understand it, analyse it, and ultimately master it.

Does a human being want to have access to knowledge, is it possible, is it an inherent right in his/her condition, must he/she fight to gain access to knowledge? It is up to the visitor to find out and the Labyrinth is there to help find an answer to these questions.

In fact, this attraction reacts based on the actions of the visitors traversing it. Each route is therefore unique and it is up to the public who experience the Labyrinth to understand in real time how to control it in order to overcome the obstacles thrown up along the way. The Labyrinth is a special experimental frameworks for research into artificial intelligence. Conceived and realised by the artists, creators and programmers of the EIDÔLON Studio and its international partners, the Labyrinth is also a major component in the development and study of new models of movement of people evolving in spaces associating digital and physical environments.
The Labyrinth is accessible in the Hybrid Cloud using the Twin Centers system. Its digital crossing is an extension to the physical crossing accessible in the HUMANEUS Center.

For the purposes of teaching, experience and deepening of knowledge, to test oneself and to experience concretely the teaching delivered by the LEIBNIZ Institute, the adventurous course of the Labyrinth – engaged with based on evolutionary scenarios different from those offered to the audience of the HUMANEUS Center – is actively used by the researchers of the ATOMOS laboratory and the students of the LEKTON School.

The Labyrinth sees its immersive technologies tested, developed and updated on an ongoing basis.

2- THE ODYSSEY

The Odyssey is a fabulous journey, one of the most ambitious experimental frameworks offered by the HUMANEUS Center. The Odyssey allows the general public to penetrate the depths of the human body to discover, explore and understand it in a way that is completely new and unique in the world.

Inner Body Cruises

Taking place within the sophisticated decor of a high-tech launch base, visitors, after getting equipped, board futuristic gondolas and strap themselves to their seats. They then witness the breathtaking spectacle of their own miniaturisation and observe the entire process that will see them launch themselves inside the human body for a fantastic journey.

The vehicles and their passengers are actually projected into an elaborate circuit (Ground Coaster) that crosses several levels of the HUMANEUS Center and is carried out at high speed, in a closed loop. It is a journey that physically takes the audience through a unique space: the human body, from the tips of the lower limbs to the top of the skull, passing through the organs, the heart, and the brain.
Like the other experimental frameworks of the HUMANEUS Center, the Odyssey framework is designed and produced by the artists, creators and programmers of the EIDÔLON production studio and its international partners.
The Odyssey is in a state of constant development and the mechanical and immersive technologies used for its operation are regularly updated. The great journey of the Odyssey can also be experienced in its digital extension in the Hybrid Cloud (see next chapter: the Twin Centers).

Through immersive technologies, mechanical engineering, the strength of the environments created on a human scale, the presence of actors and finally through its own interaction with the visited environment, the public will be able to become uniquely immersed in the extraordinary adventure offered to it.

The Odyssey takes the general public on a fabulous journey into the future. Visitors will lift the veil of matter to contemplate an immense scheme, an architecture of bewildering complexity, and be taken to the very center of a galaxy that seems terribly distant, although it is the very substance of those who discover it.
